What makes a high-quality raw material

The quality of our products begins long before they are manufactured. It starts right from the selection of raw materials.

Quality is not apparent at first glance

Two raw materials can bear the same name but still differ in quality. Origin, production process, purity and trace components can have an impact on their properties.

We do not therefore consider raw materials in isolation, but evaluate them on the basis of various quality criteria. Only when they meet our requirements are they considered for a formula.

An empty tin and a quality certificate

After all, not every raw material meets the same requirements – even if it appears identical at first glance. That is why we carefully examine every raw material before it becomes part of a Burgerstein recipe. Alongside scientific findings, quality, purity and compliance with strict specifications play a decisive role in this process.

What criteria do we use to select our raw materials?

When selecting raw materials, we take into account the following aspects, amongst others:

Purity the raw material must meet clearly defined quality requirements.
Scientific basis  the raw materials used should be based on compelling scientific findings.
Bioavailability depending on the nutrient, we check which compound and which form can be used effectively.
Regulatory requirements before a raw material can be used, it must meet the applicable requirements of Swiss food law.*
Documentation and traceability
comprehensive quality documentation must be available for each raw material.

These criteria help us to ensure consistently high product quality.

Quality is checked – not assumed

Before a raw material is processed, it is tested. This includes, amongst other things, identity, purity and quality controls as well as checking the relevant specifications. The raw material is only released for further processing once all defined requirements have been met. In this way, we create the basis for the consistently high quality of our products.

Why we work with selected suppliers

High-quality raw materials are not created by chance. For this reason, we rely on selected suppliers who meet our quality requirements and can prove this through appropriate documentation and testing. Long-term cooperation creates trust and helps to ensure the quality of our products over the long term.

Quality results from the interplay of many factors

A high-quality raw material is not distinguished by a single characteristic. Only the combination of scientific selection, careful testing, transparent documentation and consistent quality assurance makes the difference.

Burgerstein quality therefore begins long before a product is manufactured, namely with each individual raw material.

* Among other things, we check whether the raw material is authorised for its intended use and meets the legal safety requirements. These include, for example, specifications regarding heavy metals and pesticide residues, as well as microbiological quality. The key point here is not that such substances or micro-organisms are completely absent, but that the prescribed limit and maximum values are adhered to.
