Melvin Nyffeler
Swiss ice hockey goalkeeper for SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers
Melvin Nyffeler is one of Switzerland’s most established ice hockey goalkeepers and is the clear number one for SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers in the National League. With strong performances, impressive consistency and great passion, this family man has carved out a firm place for himself at the very top of Swiss ice hockey. In 2021, he was called up for the first time to represent the Swiss national ice hockey team at a World Championship.
From promising young talent to National League goalkeeper
Melvin Nyffeler began his career at EHC Illnau-Effretikon before moving via Urdorf to the youth academy of the ZSC Lions. There, he won two Swiss junior championship titles and developed into one of the country’s most promising goalkeepers. At the age of 18, he made his debut for the GCK Lions in the National League B, before making his first appearances for the ZSC Lions in Switzerland’s top division shortly afterwards. Further spells with Fribourg-Gottéron and EHC Kloten eventually led him to the SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers in 2015.

At Obersee, Melvin Nyffeler quickly established himself as the undisputed number one in goal. Together with the Lakers, he won the Swiss Cup in 2018 and, just a few months later, celebrated promotion to the National League. Since returning to Switzerland’s top division, he has been one of the team’s key players and played a major role in helping the Lakers reach the play-off semi-finals just a few years later. His loyalty to the club is also evident off the ice: the SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers have long since become Melvin Nyffeler’s sporting home.
