Roger Rychen
The Schwinger from the Glarus region
Roger Rychen is one of the best-known Schwinger from the Glarus region. With three federal wreaths, a historic victory at a wreath festival and numerous top placings, he has been one of the figureheads of Swiss Schwing for many years. It all began in 2011, when Roger Rychen won his first wreath at the Grisons-Glarus Cantonal Schwing Festival. This was followed by numerous further wreath victories.
His successful year in 2015 was a huge source of motivation for him. On the Rigi, he won his first mountain wreath and secured overall victory at the Berchtolds Schwinget in the same year. Following these successes, he realised that even more was possible. He professionalised his training and worked specifically with a mental coach.
First Federal Wreath and Glarus Sportsman of the Year
At the 2016 Swiss Federal Schwing and Alpine Festival (ESAF) in Estavayer-le-Lac, Roger Rychen fulfilled another dream by winning his first federal wreath. Following this major success, he was voted Glarus Sportsman of the Year 2016.
Historic victory at the 2022 wreath festival
In 2022, Roger Rychen made Glarus sporting history. For the first time in over 33 years, a Glarus native won a wreath festival. In Ossingen, he seized his opportunity and defeated Bless in the final bout, who had previously won all five bouts.
Beyond that, the Mollis native also impressed with strong performances in 2022. At the North-East Switzerland Schwing Festival, the Glarus-Grisons Cantonal Schwing Festival and the two mountain festivals at Schwägalp and Rigi, he finished in an excellent third place on each occasion.
The ESAF in the Glarus region
Another highlight of his career was the 2025 Swiss Federal Schwing and Alpine Festival in the Glarus region. For the three-time Federal Champion, it was something very special to be able to compete in Switzerland’s biggest Schwing festival in his own home canton.
With his federal wreaths from Estavayer-le-Lac (2016), Zug (2019) and Pratteln (2022), as well as numerous successes at cantonal, mountain and wreath festivals, Roger Rychen is one of the most successful wrestlers in the Glarus region.
