Nicolas Hojac

Swiss mountaineer – at home in the mountains and always on the lookout for adventure

Born in Bern in 1992, Nicolas spent his childhood far from the mountains in Niederscherli, Bern. He played hockey for 13 years, which, looking back, he considers to have been a valuable life lesson. After all, it taught him to be a team player and that you cannot reach your goals without a fight.
During his apprenticeship as an automation engineer and later whilst studying mechanical engineering, he felt increasingly drawn to the mountains, and the prospect of adventure kindled a new inner passion within him.
Whilst on a French language stay in Valais, he discovered his love for the mountains, and the language became a secondary concern. Starting with high-altitude mountaineering, he soon took up sport climbing, ice climbing and bouldering.

Nicolas made his first ascent of the Eiger North Face at the age of 18.

This was followed by the Matterhorn and the north face of the Grandes Jorasses. Together with Ueli Steck, he set the team speed record for the Eiger North Face: 3 hours and 46 minutes.

At the moment, Nicolas is increasingly drawn further afield, for example to remote mountain ranges in little-known regions of Patagonia, Pakistan and China.
